Ready For The Rain: 2011 Mini Cooper

This job took us and our van up to Georgetown, MA to work on this 2011 Mini Cooper. Doing this windshield replacement took some extra care, as this vehicle comes equipped with a rain sensor. The rain sensor is mounted in contact with the inside of the windshield, near the rearview mirror, and works by projecting infrared light into the windshield. If water droplets are on the glass, the infrared light is scattered, and the wetter the glass, the less light makes it back into the sensor. This tells the software in the sensor to turn on the wipers, and to set the speed of the wipers based on how fast the moisture builds up between wipes.
