You Have The Right To Choose!

If you call your insurance company to file a claim for windshield repair or replacement, you may think the person you’re speaking to works for the insurance company. However, many insurance companies will forward your call directly to a third party group, often one that own an auto glass company. When you need to get your auto glass replaced, you have the right to choose which auto glass shop you want to work on your vehicle. Insurance companies and agents will often try to steer you towards their preferred provider, but always remember; you have the right to pick any shop you wish to replace or repair your auto glass regardless of what insurance companies or agents might scare you into thinking. It’s always best…

Our Latest Project: 1987 Jaguar

Our Latest Project: 1987 Jaguar

We had a unique opportunity  recently – replacing the windshield on a Jaguar, which the owner bought after he won a few thousand bucks on a scratch ticket!   This 1987 Jaguar, with 60k original miles, was leaking down in the bottom corner. After inspection, it looked like the chrome trim on the driver’s-side bottom was not installed into the gasket correctly. This, combined with the age of the original moulding and its being dry rotted, was causing the issue.   After we had finished, the customer was elated. He couldn’t be happier with the outcome! He had mentioned he had saved this article in the Boston Globe about Titan Auto Glass until the weather had improved to have the work done. He said that…

Car Windshield Urethane – To Heat or Not To Heat

Car Windshield Urethane – To Heat or Not To Heat

There are a many different kinds of automotive windshield urethane (the material used to adhere the glass to the car and keep it safely in place.) Some shops use a lesser quality urethane – something Titan wouldn’t even use in the summer – for a replacement in the middle of winter. This is a very unsafe practice to save a few dollars. Another misconception about cold weather installations is the heating of urethane. This is a marketing ploy by big auto glass companies, making you think you need to have the urethane heated. This is untrue; it is because the urethane they choose to use requires it, not because it somehow makes the install safer. The urethane we use uses humidity to cure, doesn’t require…

Windshield Replacement Commercials

We were watching a football game on TV recently and an advertisement came on for a competing auto glass replacement firm. In the few seconds the commercial was on, we were astonished to see a funny replacement technique being used. The installer didn’t use suction cups to hold the windshield as it was slid into place! He did have gloves on, something very important as the oils from your hands can impact the curing and the seal of the urethane, but he was holding the new windshield by the bottom as he slid it into place. This means that the gloves would have been right in the urethane. What a mess that would be! If you need your windshield or other auto glass replaced, you…

Removing the Wipers During a Windshield Replacement

Ever watch them replace the windshield on your car? If you haven’t, the next time you need a new windshield, watch what happens. If the repairman is doing his job correctly, you’ll see him remove the windshield wipers and cowl, not just push them back out of the way. This is incredibly important in order to get the proper seal. If the wipers are left in place, the installer has to jam the windshield in at an angle, something that might impact fit, and impede a safe install. If you need your windshield or other auto glass replaced, you can be sure that with Titan you’re getting the absolute best quality work. Titan Auto Glass is located in Woburn MA and we serve all of…

Cleaning Your Car’s Windshield

Cleaning Your Car’s Windshield

Keeping your windshield clean and clear is important. Dirty windshields hamper your visibility and could lead to accidents. Keep the wiper fluid topped off so you don’t run out. There’s nothing worse than an empty wiper fluid tank. Also, there are two sides to every story, and two sides to every window. While you may clean the outside of the windows every time you gas up, or run the car through the carwash, the insides need cleaning too. Be careful with the kind of glass cleaner you choose. Most glass cleaner contains ammonia which can be unpleasant, if not dangerous in the small enclosed area of a car. Ammonia also isn’t good for certain kinds of plastics, vinyl, rubber or leather used in the interior…

Six Reasons Why We Love Working with Auto Body Shops and Dealerships

Like most independent auto glass replacement companies, we love working with auto body shops and dealerships. Why, you ask? Lots of reasons! 1.) You understand the finer points of windshield replacement and appreciate a job well done. 2.) We know right where you will be. (You stay in one place and so does the target vehicle.) 3.) You usually have those nice, warm and snug buildings where we can complete our work out of the wind, rain and snow! 4.) You appreciate that we purchase top quality materials – both the windshields and the urethane — and understand why our services might cost a little more than the big auto glass company that uses second quality materials 5.) You have lots of cars to work on…

Why Contact a Local Company for Your Windshield Replacement

Why Contact a Local Company for Your Windshield Replacement

Last month, Governor Charlie Baker asked Massachusetts residents to patronize local businesses and sought to turn Valentine’s Day into Valentine’s Week to help local retailers, restaurants, and other firms recover some of the business lost to the snow. If you need a windshield replacement, consider calling a local firm. (Even if it isn’t Titan.) While you would think that automotive glass replacement is impervious to the weather, local glass shops have also taken a hit. People have been staying home with all the bad weather and the number of replacement calls has dropped significantly. And, if we don’t work, we don’t get paid. Support your local businesses. If you need your windshield or other auto glass replaced, you can be sure that with Titan you’re…

Helping the Helpers

Helping the Helpers

With all of the crazy winter weather we’ve been having in the Northeast (100+ inches of snow in a month!), auto repair shops and tow services have been having a very busy month. And sometimes, even they need a little help as well. Here’s a job we just did yesterday for Barrett Transportation of Newburyport. Their flatbed truck had a cracked windshield that needed replacement, so that they could get back on the road to help their customers. As you can see, despite the cold temperatures and falling snowflakes, we were able to do the job quickly and properly, because the urethane we use uses humidity to cure, doesn’t require heating and can be used in temperatures as low as 0 degrees, with a 1…

How NOT to repair a cracked windshield

How NOT to repair a cracked windshield

Perhaps you may have seen this video making the rounds of your friends’ social media feeds – How to repair a cracked windshield. So what’s the story behind the video? The solvents in the alcohol and bug spray dissolve the coating on the windshield, allowing the salt to penetrate the crack and hide it. Contrary to what the video title states, this treatment does not repair the windshield; it only hides the problem. Any windshield with a crack this large needs to be immediately replaced, as your windshield is a vital part of your car’s safety features. While you might be tempted to do a quick DIY fix for windshield cracks, this sort of problem is best left to professionals, who will fix it right…
