Built For Speed: 1996 Porsche Carrera

Here’s a look at one of our latest projects – a windshield replacement on a 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera. We performed this job on site through our friends at Sublime Restorations in South Hampton, NH. The Carrera’s windshield has the antenna built into it. Since the connection for the plug is in the upper dash, we needed to use extra care when performing this replacement, because part of the dash needs to be disassembled to plug in the antenna. Ready For The Rain: 2011 Mini Cooper

Ready For The Rain: 2011 Mini Cooper

This job took us and our van up to Georgetown, MA to work on this 2011 Mini Cooper. Doing this windshield replacement took some extra care, as this vehicle comes equipped with a rain sensor. The rain sensor is mounted in contact with the inside of the windshield, near the rearview mirror, and works by projecting infrared light into the windshield. If water droplets are on the glass, the infrared light is scattered, and the wetter the glass, the less light makes it back into the sensor. This tells the software in the sensor to turn on the wipers, and to set the speed of the wipers based on how fast the moisture builds up between wipes. Insurance for this replacement was handled by Farm…

When Your Windshield Absolutely, Positively Has To Be Replaced Right

Here’s one of the more unusual replacement jobs we’ve had to do recently: This 2013 Morgan Olson FedEx delivery van was located in North Billerica. This windshield replacement was a little more difficult than usual. According to the VIN#, this is registered as a Ford vehicle. The problem is there is no Ford like this. Grumman Olson has 8 different models, each with a different windshield. Our solution? We had the glass custom made! We hope your package got there on time! If you need your windshield or other auto glass replaced, you can be sure that with Titan you’re getting the absolute best quality work. Better Rot Repair: What Goes Wrong and How You Can Take Control

Living in New England exposes your car to extreme weather conditions, which can lead to rust and rot. What you probably did not know, however, is that improper window repair could lead to premature decay by exposing unprotected steel. When damaged glass is removed during windshield replacement, bare metal can be exposed in the pinchweld. The pinchweld is the area in the car window where the windshield or back glass sits. In order to ensure quality auto glass repair, it is important to prime these exposed spots during an installation to prevent any moisture or contaminants from damaging the pinchweld. Unfortunately, many auto glass repair companies skip this crucial step in order to save time and money. Here at Titan Auto Glass, we make sure…

Our Latest Project: 1987 Jaguar

Our Latest Project: 1987 Jaguar

We had a unique opportunity  recently – replacing the windshield on a Jaguar, which the owner bought after he won a few thousand bucks on a scratch ticket!   This 1987 Jaguar, with 60k original miles, was leaking down in the bottom corner. After inspection, it looked like the chrome trim on the driver’s-side bottom was not installed into the gasket correctly. This, combined with the age of the original moulding and its being dry rotted, was causing the issue.   After we had finished, the customer was elated. He couldn’t be happier with the outcome! He had mentioned he had saved this article in the Boston Globe about Titan Auto Glass until the weather had improved to have the work done. He said that…

Car Windshield Urethane – To Heat or Not To Heat

Car Windshield Urethane – To Heat or Not To Heat

There are a many different kinds of automotive windshield urethane (the material used to adhere the glass to the car and keep it safely in place.) Some shops use a lesser quality urethane – something Titan wouldn’t even use in the summer – for a replacement in the middle of winter. This is a very unsafe practice to save a few dollars. Another misconception about cold weather installations is the heating of urethane. This is a marketing ploy by big auto glass companies, making you think you need to have the urethane heated. This is untrue; it is because the urethane they choose to use requires it, not because it somehow makes the install safer. The urethane we use uses humidity to cure, doesn’t require…

Removing the Wipers During a Windshield Replacement

Removing the Wipers During a Windshield Replacement

Ever watch them replace the windshield on your car? If you haven’t, the next time you need a new windshield, watch what happens. If the repairman is doing his job correctly, you’ll see him remove the windshield wipers and cowl, not just push them back out of the way. This is incredibly important in order to get the proper seal. If the wipers are left in place, the installer has to jam the windshield in at an angle, something that might impact fit, and impede a safe install. If you need your windshield or other auto glass replaced, you can be sure that with Titan you’re getting the absolute best quality work. Titan Auto Glass is located in Woburn MA and we serve all of…

Six Reasons Why We Love Working with Auto Body Shops and Dealerships

You understand the finer points of windshield replacement and appreciate a job well done. 2.) We know right where you will be. (You stay in one place and so does the target vehicle.) 3.) You usually have those nice, warm and snug buildings where we can complete our work out of the wind, rain and snow! 4.) You appreciate that we purchase top quality materials – both the windshields and the urethane — and understand why our services might cost a little more than the big auto glass company that uses second quality materials 5.) You have lots of cars to work on…
