Built For Speed: 1996 Porsche Carrera

Here’s a look at one of our latest projects – a windshield replacement on a 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera. We performed this job on site through our friends at Sublime Restorations in South Hampton, NH. The Carrera’s windshield has the antenna built into it. Since the connection for the plug is in the upper dash, we needed to use extra care when performing this replacement, because part of the dash needs to be disassembled to plug in the antenna. Car Windshield Urethane – To Heat or Not To Heat

There are a many different kinds of automotive windshield urethane (the material used to adhere the glass to the car and keep it safely in place.) Some shops use a lesser quality urethane – something Titan wouldn’t even use in the summer – for a replacement in the middle of winter. This is a very unsafe practice to save a few dollars. Another misconception about cold weather installations is the heating of urethane. This is a marketing ploy by big auto glass companies, making you think you need to have the urethane heated. This is untrue; it is because the urethane they choose to use requires it, not because it somehow makes the install safer. The urethane we use uses humidity to cure, doesn’t require…

When the Lowest Price Isn’t the Best Price

When it comes time to replace your windshield, you may be tempted to go with the company that quotes you the lowest price. However, some companies will cut corners to save on cost. They do things like use lower-quality glass and urethane, which can cause more problems than they solve. This photo is of a BMW M5 windshield replacement we performed at Sublime Restorations in South Hampton, NH. The customer was having some issues with the windshield leaking. The previous glass company had pulled and installed the windshield multiple times, and still couldn’t get it right. Sublime ordered the OEM windshield from Germany, and trusted us to get it done right the first time. The windshield in the M5 is known as a “Rubber Set”…
