When the Lowest Price Isn’t the Best Price
When it comes time to replace your windshield, you may be tempted to go with the company that quotes you the lowest price. However, some companies will cut corners to save on cost. They do things like use lower-quality glass and urethane, which can cause more problems than they solve.
This photo is of a BMW M5 windshield replacement we performed at Sublime Restorations in South Hampton, NH. The customer was having some issues with the windshield leaking. The previous glass company had pulled and installed the windshield multiple times, and still couldn’t get it right. Sublime ordered the OEM windshield from Germany, and trusted us to get it done right the first time. The windshield in the M5 is known as a “Rubber Set” or “Rope in”, meaning that it uses no urethane, only pressure from the rubber strips to hold it in place on the pinchweld channel. The process of putting it in involves using a rope slid inside of the rubber channel of the moulding, then putting the windshield into place on the car and making sure it is lined up correctly, then pulling the rope from the inside of the vehicle to make the moulding come over the lip of the pinchweld channel. Once this is done properly, this will ensure no more leaks.
